What books are you reading right now?

Unread postby vegawriters » 11 Sep 2015 08:45

There isn't a specific topic for it (or if there was I missed it), but I thought I'd throw it out there. It's a question I tend to ask everyone cause you know, books are awesome.

I'm currently re-reading Killing Yourself to Live by Chuck Klosterman. If you haven't read his stuff about life in rock, you're really missing out. As per the book flap - and for once it sells the book beautifully -

For 6,557 miles, Chuck Klosterman thought about dying. He drove a rental car from New York to Rhode Island to Georgia to Mississippi to Iowa to Minneapolis to Fargo to Seattle, and he chased death and rock 'n' roll all the way.

Curious. Other readers out there? I'm actually in the middle of two books right now, but I needed to put the other one down. I was just having the worst time finishing it at the moment.

Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Because when you grow up in Iowa and take vacations to Ingalls homesteads, you never EVER outgrow the Prairie. ;)

And I just found them after years of them being packed away. :P

I read all of those books over and over again as a kid. I haven't picked them up in years, but what's funny is that we just went through a HUGE book purge. Probably donated over 1,000 books. Just on Sunday I was putting some stuff back up on the shelves and there was the Laura Ingalls Wilder stuff.

I just finished the 5th Wave and the Infinite Sea from Rick Yancey. And just started Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar, not sure if it's a book I want to read when I'm home alone at night haha!

I really need to read Wicked. First I need to finish Killing Yourself to Live, which is just so much fun and yet terrible all at the same time.

This sounds familiar to me and I can't place why. What's it about? (I mean, I could look it up and find out for myself, but why not make you do the work? ;) )

I think Jane Eyre will forever be my favorite. :) Don't watch the movie when you're done though. It sucks. All versions. None of them are nearly as good as the book. Well, duh, but still! :P

I really loved that one, I preferred it over the second book, but I'm still very curious about the next book. Are you going to read the others too?
Plus I can't wait for the movie next year!

The one book I fell in love with from a lit class in college. :)

I absolutely LOVED the first one. The second one keeps stumbling for me because I am so lost in the 1st person narrative and I'd rather have what's happening outside of the district. So I can't get into it as much.

I love the first two. I like Mockingjay but not as much as the others, I'm not sure why. I guess I like the stuff about the actual Games best.

I tried to read the Hunger Games again before the movie came out, sadly I couldn't finish them on time. But they are one of my favorite book series! It's one I'd love to re-read every now and then and enjoy the movies, even now they are over :(

I saw the last movie a few days ago, and unlike many other movie adaptions from books, the Hunger Games series were done very well and very true to the books, I like that :)

I don't read much. That's something I would really love to get into. My ADD brain does not allow it right now. That being said I have been reading "Anxiety and Phobia" workbook. Holy cow this book has been helpful. I've been learning different breathing techniques and also how to deal with stress and anxiety. I feel like a new person.

I think I need to look this up for one of the peer groups I run. Seriously. It could really help. *steals rec and runs away*

And have you looked into comic books and graphic novels? I mean, I know a lot of people with ADD brains can't follow the pictures but for others it works really well and let's face it, comics rock. :D There's one that features the guy in Fallout Boy I think it is. Maybe Greenday. Anyway, It's called Toe Tag Riot and I love it.
